Empowering Students through Personalized Learning Plan “PLP”

Good Shepherd Lutheran High School (GSLHS) believes in empowering students to be creative innovators. Intrinsically motivated by curiosity, students navigate a personal quest throughout their high school experience involving self-directed, interest based educational opportunities. Innovation and entrepreneurship resonate as students tackle real-world problems, while collaborating across communities and cultures, fostering perseverance, and discovering the wonder and joy of new ideas and critical thinking. The instructional focus of GSLHS holds student engagement as a top priority accomplished through a personalized learning plan designed in collaboration with Students, parents and the learning team to meet academic expectations, target specific learning goals and allow student to make choices impacting their educational journey. The PLP is framed with the idea of God’s vocational call for each student. An integrated foundational curriculum built on the academic standards and integrated into all learning experiences. In-depth inquiry requiring students to tackle challenges that re relevant to the ever-evolving technology-driven, problem –centered culture in which they live and work and by utilizing various sources of expertise; their peers, teachers, community members, and experts around the world by way of technology project-based learning experiences that culminate products that students design, develop, and share with a diverse public audience, further emphasizing for students the relevance of thinking and learning and through the PLP process learn how to determine solutions, have multiple opportunities for reflect, and revise their work with feedback form teachers, advisors, and peers. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV)

Collaborative, Innovative Teaching

GSL emphasizes teaching and learning without traditional boundaries between teachers and students, institutions, and disciplines. Teachers and staff members collaborate in every aspect of school. Collaboration includes working within disciplines to create a cohesive progression of skills, with teachers from other disciplines to provide students with a more authentic educational experience, and with administrators and other staff members to create a fully functioning school. As a result of these working relationships, the school’s focus becomes one of innovation. Teachers are facilitators, partnering with students the process of learning and constantly expanding their understanding of education in order to meet each student on his or her unique, personalized education journey. Leading in Faith Teams (LIFT) creates space and opportunities where students grow their faith and are mentored by teachers and staff members as they learn what it means to be a Christian leader. This intentional aspect of GSL’s school community blends the three elements of our mission: Growing in Grace, Serving in Community, and Leading in Faith. “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:4, ESV).

GSL is a part of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
